Mucus gets a bad press, as we only tend to notice its presence when it is infected or congested. When we are healthy, we don’t take account of the all the useful body functions that mucus is involved in. After all, it makes up part of our saliva so that we can swallow food, it [...]

MLB weekend betting tips
Another weekend of Major League Baseball is nearly upon us and for sides in the AL and NL middle May is a crucial time across the divisions.
The ladders are beginning to take form and at a glance betting fans can see who is likely to make the playoffs and who isn’t.
Here are our top MLB betting news and tips for this weekend:
Orioles to sweep Rays:
Baltimore’s climb up the MLB ranks continued last week with series victories over the Royals and Twins but they still lack consistency at the mound. Closer Jim Johnson blew a save on Tuesday but has a chance at redemption this weekend against a Rays side sneaking up to AL East.
Despite Tampa Bay’s resurgence the Orioles should have no problem making hits and with Chris Davis and Ryan Flaherty in good form betting fans should back a series sweep at Camden Yards.
Rockies powerless against Giants:
Colorado finally recovered from a four-game losing streak with victories against the Cardinals on Sunday before a win over the Cubs two days later. Yet they don’t have enough pitching strength to take on the 2012 World Series champions and despite slugger Carlos Gonzalez impressing on Tuesday Colorado are set to lose this series without a fight.
San Francisco won their series in Colorado 3-0 last month and are likely to do so again this weekend.
Washington scalp Padres:
The NL East meets West this weekend as Washington travel to San Diego looking to replicate last season’s 2-1 series victory in California. Although the Nationals have stuttered of late they are still second in the division with a 21-18 record and on the road have gone 9-9 this season.
betting MLB World Series fans can expect Stephen Strasburg (3.10 ERA) to open Thursday’s game against the Padres’ Edinson Volquez, who has two wins from his past three starts but carries a worse 5.15 ERA.
A win on Thursday would give Washington confidence heading into the remaining weekend games and they are a good price to finish this four-game series 3-1.

Evans return to form impresses Wiggins
Reigning Tour de France champion Bradley Wiggins has admitted he has been impressed by Cadel Evans’ return to form this year after a tough 2012, with the Englishman witnessing first hand the return to form of his rival during the 2013 Giro d’Italia.
The Australian went into last year’s race struggling with illness and never really stood much chance of defending the Tour crown he had won the previous year, with Team Sky’s Wiggins going on to clinch his famous victory in a stunning year for the British star.
But Evans finds himself going into this year’s Tour in some very promising form and free from injury or illness, preparing for a Tour that will offer the Australian the climbing hills that really play to his advantages.
After deciding late to compete at the Giro in preparation for this year’s Tour, Evans managed to put himself in a strong position after an impressive week’s riding, due mainly to some intelligent and strong riding throughout the opening part of the gruelling race.
While the press have begun to really take notice that the 2011 Tour champion could well be in contention in this year’s race, defending Tour champion Wiggins, who is among the favourites again in the Tour de France betting, has admitted he is convinced the Aussie is going into this year’s event in the best form he’s seen Evans in since his triumph two years ago.
“Cadel is probably … I’m going to say, the best I’ve seen him since he won the Tour. He is the danger man in that position. He showed (on Saturday) he is in good shape,” Wiggins admitted during a break in his Giro campaign.
While Evans is now expected to be right up there challenging in this year’s Tour, Wiggins is now expected to play only a supporting role to Chris Froome after Team Sky fulfilled their promise to last year’s runner-up that he would lead the team in this year’s race.
Murray’s Wimbledon Chances Hang in the Balance
Andy Murray’s chances of going one better than last year and winning the Wimbledon title this summer have suffered a major setback after the world number two withdrew from the Italian Open and is likely to miss Roland Garros with injury.
The Olympic and US Open champion has suffered from bad form on clay this spring and has won just three of five matches on the surface since switching from his favoured hard.
In his opening match in Rome he lost the first set to world number 37 Marcel Granollers and although he battled through a tiebreak to win the second withdrew shortly afterwards citing lower-back pain.
Unfortunately, it appears the change of surface has done Murray no good at all and he is on the verge of withdrawing from the French Open altogether, leaving Rafael Nadal the favourite in the French Open betting.
This news is likely to concern Wimbledon betting fans, for the 26-year-old has little time to recover ahead of the grass season this summer.
Murray is scheduled to play Queens before heading to SW19 and expectations are high for him to progress to the final of London’s prestigious build-up tournament.
Should he win his third title there then expectations will grow even greater ahead of Wimbledon but a title at Queens could in fact seriously hamper his Grand Slam chances.
When he won Queens in 2011 he lost in the Wimbledon semis to Rafael Nadal, yet last year made the final at SW19 after crashing out in the second round of the AEGON Championships.
Maybe it would benefit Murray more if he simply sat out of competitive tennis for a while and stuck to the practice courts before the first round at Wimbledon. He has no chance of winning at Roland Garros and is only likely to strain his back further, while victory at Queens means nothing heading into the grass Slam.
It’s a big risk to take and one that wouldn’t please his many supporters but Murray’s Wimbledon hopes hang in the balance and maybe what he needs more than anything is a good, long rest.
